About the project

Fael is an educational institution that focuses on distance education (EaD), catering to students from various regions across Brazil, representing diverse backgrounds and profiles. In the past, communication with students was limited to desktop platforms, which posed challenges for some individuals.

Project target

The primary objective of this project was to create a new area through an application that would allow students to access key functionalities. The student app was pioneering within the institution and aimed to meet the diverse needs of students across Brazil, catering to a wide range of scenarios.

Project background

With over 90,000 students from diverse regions of Brazil enrolled in distance education courses and considering the various economic scenarios and technology access levels, there arose the need to create an app that could provide basic functionalities to users who lacked access to computers or nearby physical centers. The aim was to allow them to manage their academic life more smoothly. For this purpose, the app was designed with three fundamental premises:

Accessibility

The app was designed to be accessible to all students, regardless of their level of familiarity with technology or financial resources. An intuitive interface and easy navigation features make it inclusive for everyone.

Keep it simple

The app focuses on providing essential functionalities for the student's academic life, such as access to study materials, communication with teachers and peers, tracking grades and deadlines, as well as financial services and relevant institutional information.

Efficiency

The application was developed to operate on mobile devices, ensuring efficiency and performance even in limited internet connections. This enables students to easily access the app on their smartphones, staying connected with the university no matter their location.

Design process

Throughout the software development process, I collaborated with a partner company, as well as contributed to the design aspects of the project. My role involved working on both the user interface and acting as a liaison between the companies, ensuring that expectations were aligned with the user's needs. Some of my core responsibilities were:

Based on the previously conducted studies, as well as approved wireframes and initial designs, the prototyping of the main areas was carried out.

Prototyping

Each deliverable underwent a usability and design validation, ensuring the efficiency of the system and the quality of the deliverables.

Validation

The delivery process was conducted using the sprint model, and I oversaw the monitoring of deliverables for each sprint and ensured alignment of expectations.

Monitoring

With the MVP (Minimum Viable Product), a series of internal tests were conducted to align expectations within the development team and across the entire company.
